Sometimes, you simply want to eat something that you simply have not been able to find in any of the stores in your neighbourhood. Maybe you have immigrated to the United States and yearn for something “from the old country”; alternatively, maybe you tasted something on a foreign vacation fell in love with the taste and would love to repeat the experience?
I Know How You Feel – It’s Happened To Me
Although I met my lovely wife here in the States, she was actually born in Mexico; her family came here when she was an 11 year old. To celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary, we took an extended vacation back to her birth town in Mexico. Knowing that her relatives were not rich (that’s not to say they were poor, more “average”); we decided that we would accept any “over night” hospitality offered but would try to be as much self catering as possible.
We were a few days into the visit when the wife experienced what (I am secretly convinced) was the most enjoyable experience of the whole vacation. We were in a local supermarket picking up a few basic supplies; when, walking down one aisle, she suddenly started squealing with delight. When she had calmed down enough to be coherent, she pointed to a selection of packets on the shelves marked ‘galletas Mexicanas”. She hastily translated that for me as Mexican cookies, which left me rather unimpressed; until she explained that her fondest memory of her early life in Mexico was eating these Cookies From Mexico as treats on special holidays and occasions.
You Can Only Bring So Many Back With You
I was still not too interested in these “galletas” – after all, a cookie is a cookie – but, that all changed when I tasted my first one; yes, it was just a cookie; BUT, what a taste sensation it had. I was hooked immediately. We restocked every day and, when it was time to return to the States, we packed as many as we could carry home.
Then Your Stock Runs Out
All too quickly, we ate our way through all the wonderful “galletas” we had brought back with us from Mexico. We scoured our home neighborhood and even went further afield trying to find some more – all to no avail! Then, I thought of searching on line, I simply typed in “Cookies From Mexico” and – bingo – not only are they available for same day dispatch for delivery to our door; but, they even carried my wife’s favorite brand!
